Fabulous Free Motion One Day Sewing Retreat

We had so much fun on Sunday at the fabulous free motion one day sewing retreat. Usually my one day and two days sewing retreats are very relaxed and guests are welcome to choose to make a sewing project or bring along one of their own. We’ve had bag making, dress making, patchwork and quilting and of course Christmas projects at the Christmas time sewing retreats.

Sunday was a little different and a little more structured. I always encourage guests to learn at their own pace and make a decision about their projects. We spent the morning leaning how to attach a free motion sewing foot, how to drop the feed dogs, altering tension on the sewing machines if needed and practising with or without machine quilting gloves. Whist I recommend products I like to work with, we’re all different and like different things.

Finally we were ready for the exciting part  playing with the techniques. It was so much fun but also testing at times. Some people pick free motion up straight away and for some it takes a little longer – I always encourage each person to learn at their own pace. We practised stippling, pebbling, doodling flowers and writing names and dates – some ladies even free motioned cats and birds  amazing!

The day was super special because lots of my lovely regular ladies joined us for a yummy two course carvery. It was wonderful that the venue set up a room for us to catch up outside of weekly/fortnightly and monthly classes. Sewing is such a wonderful world to be part of – its lovely to spend time with fabulous likeminded lovelies. Supergutted I forgot to take photos! I was too busy enjoying the lemon tart! The room was filled with love, laughter and sewing chitchat. How exciting!

After lunch, we returned to the sewing room and started a panel for our projects. I’m sure you’ll agree that the panels speak for themselves – just sew beautiful! True to form, I wanted to play when I got home – its sew addictive!

All that’s left for me to say on todays blog is a big thank you to the ladies who joined me for the fabulous free motion one day sewing retreat and to our wonderful regular sewing ladies who joined us for a slightly late Christmas Celebration. Thank you for popping by to read my blog and if you would like to have a little go at sewing, please join my Sew Along Sunday Facebook Group
